Review | Super Mario Party: Jamboree

Super Mario Party Jamboree ND Featured Image

I’ve been to a lot of parties. All different types of parties: Dance parties, Halloween parties, pool parties, parties with bouncy castles and cakes. You name a party, I’ve been to it. My favourite type of party however is a Mario Party and Mario Party Jamboree is THE BEST PARTY IN THE WORLD.

You can choose from lots of different characters when you enter the game and unlock a few more later.

  1. Monty Mole
  2. Ninji
  3. Goomba
  4. Pauline
  5. Toadette
  6. Spike
  7. Shy Guy
  8. Birdo
  9. Luigi
  10. Princess Peach
  11. Rosalina
  12. Daisy
  13. Yoshi
  14. Toad
  15. King Boo
  16. Mario
  17. Wario
  18. Koopa Troopa
  19. Bowser
  20. Bowser Jr.
  21. Donkey Kong
  22. Waluigi

That’s the official rankings of characters chosen by me.

Monty Mole, FTW

You can do a lot of things when you enter the game. In the plaza, you can listen to music, make game cards, check stats and records, create new in-game reactions and play online. The best part is when you take the hot air balloon to the main island. There is lots to do there. The game modes are:

  • Mario Party – play on different maps against parents or the computer. It’s like a video game board game, where you take it in turns to get the most stars.
  • Mini-game Bay – here you can just play any mini-games you like.
  • Rhythm Kitchen – play along to the music and create food. Uses one Joy-Con.
  • Toad’s Item Factory – use the Joy-Con in each hand to move the platforms so the ball can cross the course.
  • Paratroopa Flight School – take the Joy-Con off the Switch and hold them in your hands. Then, use your arms as wings and fly with Koopa.
  • Bowser Kaboon Squad – defeat imposter Bowser. You play with 7 other characters and together collect bombs to fire at Imposter Bowser.
  • Koopathlon – it’s like a big race, with lots of people. Like my dad’s boss does. You choose 3 mini-games and then do laps to see who wins.

There are so many choices of mini-games to play and they’re all so different. In Domination, you just bash the button as fast as you can to line up Thwomps like dominoes. In On Again, Off Again, you have to plan your moves and time them to perfection so that you hit your targets. The trick is, if the spiky ball comes from the left hit on, but if it comes from the right, hit off. Works every time!

In Party Planner Trek, you walk around the maps, helping NPCs to get the levels ready for the main event. You’ll play minigames, have duels and even zoom around tracks, testing out experimental items for Paratroopa mechanics. It’s nice to have a way to play when my dad is making me waffles or my mum is putting the laundry out and I can have a bit of time for myself.

The worst part about Mario Party is when someone steals your stars. But you can steal other people’s stars too so it’s not unfair. You also get bonus stars at the end of the game, so you might be in 3rd, when the game ends, but still win.

Best. Mario Party. EVER!

Mario Party is so much fun. There is lots to do so you never get bored of it. For example, when I didn’t want to play any mini-games or battle Bowser, I went and took some rare photos around the island. Like this one.

Mario Party Jamboree looks really good. Not as good as Astro Bot, but the PlayStation 5 is much bigger than the Nintendo Switch, so that makes sense.

My dad says Nintendo used their NintendoWare Bezel Engine to make it – which is apparently what they use for all their party games [sic] To which I was told, that nobody will care about that because they’ll be to busy enjoying how cute Monty Mole is [sic].

The music is great too. It’s really cute and gets me excited to play the games. Monty Mole likes it too. He’s always tapping his tummy along to the music when he’s excited or when he wins a mini-game.

I think Mario Party: Jamboree is the best Mario Party and probably my second favourite game to play with family and friends, after Mario Kart. Here’s an image of my first ever Mario Kart race.

I hope that they don’t release a new Mario Party too soon so I can keep playing Jamboree.

There ain’t no party like a Mario Party, cos a Mario Party don’t stop!

Oh, wait. I’ve got to go and eat my dinner now…
